I'm teaching a course on community arts that will have a community based learning component. Students are going to be working with an arts organization that is transitioning from a private gift to become a self-sustaining non-profit. These links will be useful! What is your interest in non-profits? Are you working with an arts org/studying them?
ReplyDeleteHey Carey! I'm on the board of directors for Spiral Q, an arts and social justice program in Philadelphia. We specialize in papier mache puppets that are built for rallies and protests, neighborhood parades, and school programs. http://www.spiralq.org.
ReplyDeleteAs chair of the governance committee, board recruitment is one of my major tasks.
I had an article on democratic practices in arts orgs that came out last year in the Journal of Arts Management, Law, and Society. I also wrote an essay called “Sociological Dilemmas Facing Arts Managers in the Twenty-First Century” that came out last year in a book called The Science and Art of Cultural Management. If you need any resources for the class, let me know.
